5 Tactics for Increasing Social Media Engagement
Every week in our learning community we conduct live training, and last week we focused on 5 tactics every church could deploy to increase their engagement on social media. Here's a brief summary of what we shared.
1. Social Listening
The best way to create engaging content is to understand the platforms by paying attention and listening to the conversations taking place. By being actively aware of what is happening on social media, nationally and in your local area or niche audience, you are able to contribute to the conversations, create content about trending stories and know what kind of content is hot.
2. Micro-Influencers
Influencer marketing might be like a long way off for your small church, but micro-influencers might be helpful. These an accounts who high levels of engagement, but under 100,000 followers, like a local history account or a mum-blogger. Partnering with accounts like these will increase your reach within desired audience, without breaking the bank. For example, invite a local history account to come and do a tour of your ancient church building with an interesting story to tell.
3. Hooks in Videos
People's attention span on social media is 1.3 seconds. By putting a hook, something to grab their attention, in the first second of your video, people are significantly more likely to watch your videos will the end. Try adding a hook, such as a question or dramatic statement, next time you're creating a video for social media.
4. Hashtags
They may feel old-fashioned now, but hashtags are still important in getting your content seen, particularly on Twitter and Instagram. Try adding 5 to 10 specific hashtags to your next post on Instagram, and by specific we don't mean #Jesus.
5. Analytics
Every social media platform gives you helpful insights is how many people are seeing and engaging with content, alongside a breakdown of the demographics of those people (Eg, their age, gender, location, etc). By looking at these data points and tracking them, you are able to pay attention to patterns and trends to improve your content.
